We (the U.S. Government - that's supposed to be US) spent about $1 million each for MRAP vehicles - built to withstand mines and roadside bombings. Now 2,000 of these will be sold to SCRAP dealers in Afghanistan. You can read more about this here.
Well - at least the metals will be recovered. I'm reminded of the end of Viet Nam when untold numbers of helicopters and other equipment was just dumped into the sea.
Does any of this make sense to anyone?

Thanks for the post, and I had no idea that scrap metal recycling was such a big issue. Especially with scrap metal thefts, I didn't know it was such a big issue until after I read up on it.
